BUSINESS SKILLS VISA CHANGES effective 19th April 2010 : Business Skills visa applications have been capped for the 09/10 financial year to 6530 applications.  It is understood that this number will be reached well before 30 June 2010.

Total net assets criteria have increased from AUD500,000 to AUD800,000 for subclass 160 & 161 visa applications and from AUD250,000 to AUD500,000 for subclass 163 and 164 applications

 

'Main business' criteria has changed to require that applicants have at least 10% ownership for publicly listed companies and 30% for non-publicly listed companies with a turnover greater than AUD400,000.    For those applicants relying on their 'main business' with a turnover less than AUD400,000, then the ownership interest is to be 51% or over.

 

Senior executives may no longer apply for subclass 163 visa and should apply through via ENS (857) or the appropriate business skill visa subclass 161 Senior Executive

 

JOB READY PROGRAM RELEVANT TO STUDENT GRADUATES OF AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTIONS  - The Government announced 12 March 2010 that all new applicants for 487, 885 and 886 visas, that have completed Australian studies prior to their visa application and lodged a TRA skills assessment prior to 1 January 2010 and received a successful outcome, can make a valid application for those visa classes WITHOUT having to participate in the Job Ready Program

 

NEW SKILLED OCCUPATIONS LIST (SOL)

The Australian Government has announced a Skilled Occupations List (SOL) which sees a decrease in the number of skilled occupations from 408 to 181.  The new list is likely to be instated from 1 July 2010.  There are numerous transitional arrangements which may assist your situation.  Please contact a HWC immigration Services consultant to see how these transitional arrangements may serve you.

 

DIAC SUSPENDS THE PROCESSING OF SOME OFFSHORE GENERAL SKILLED MIGRATION (GSM) VISAS

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship has temporarily suspended processing of the following GSM visas :-

  • 175 Skilled Independent visa
  • 176 Skilled Sponsored visa
  • 475 Skilled Regional visa

The processing of these visas is likely to recommence from 1 July 2010
